The Good, The Bad and The Ugly?

Zam Zam, a university studentBritish Muslims are one of the most commonly discussed communities in the media today. In?our special?film, Muslims from different backgrounds offer their perspectives on how they feel the media portrays them.

This short film gives an insight into their opinions on the challenges that the media poses to them today. We hear from university students Zam Zam and Nimo from Bolton; Preacher, Mohammed and Azhar - the comedians from the critically acclaimed Allah Made Me Funny tour and a number of professionals based here in the north of England. BBC
Ethnic minority staff: 10.6% across BBC; 4.38% of senior managers.
Target: 12.5% across BBC; 7% of senior managers by end of 2007.
Schemes: Development scheme and targeted recruitment for ethnic minority staff; set up CDN's first regional branch.

ITV
Ethnic minority staff: 7% across ITV; 14% in London. One in three GMTV production trainees; two senior ITN managers.
Target: No formal targets.
Schemes: ITV Yorkshire Foundation Placement Scheme; recruitment ads in publications known for diverse readership.


Channel 4
Ethnic minority staff: 12% across C4; 7% senior managers.
Target: 13% total workforce; 9% senior staff.
Schemes: Researcher training programme; runners schemes; bursary schemes; funding for three ethnic minority deputy commissioning editors per year; annual briefing for black and Asian-owned indies; networking events for ethnic minority talent; £500,000 a year invested in training ethnic minorities.
